John,
Since you joined Brady, you’ve taken bold action in the fight to end gun violence with us. That’s why we want you, one of our most dedicated grassroots supporters, to take our survey on assault weapons. Because even after dozens of high-profile mass shootings committed with lethal assault rifles, Congress has yet to do anything about it.
Assault weapons are the weapon of choice in some of the most high-profile, deadliest mass shootings. That’s because they’re easy to obtain, highly lethal, and designed to kill as many people in the shortest period of time possible. This was the devastating reality at the Las Vegas Route 91 Harvest music festival in 2017. The gunman, armed with weapons including an AR-15-style rifle, shot and killed 58 innocent people and injured over 400 more within seconds.
We’ve been fighting to reinstate a ban on assault weapons since Congress let it expire almost two decades ago. But this we know, John: We're on the cusp of banning assault weapons today. Now, with President Biden in the White House, we have the best chance to pass this ban since Jim and Sarah Brady first did so in 1994 with then-Sen. Joe Biden. Together, they beat the NRA and passed the first federal ban on assault weapons.
Thank you for helping shape our agenda. Your opinion and voice matter more than ever before. We have the best opportunity in nearly 30 years to pass federal reforms to prevent gun violence and save lives, like banning assault weapons. Please take our survey now!
We’re Fighting Across the Country to Defend and Uphold Our Gun Laws In California and Nevada, Brady and Team ENOUGH activists advocated against untraceable “ghost guns,” which are firearms that can be purchased online by prohibited purchasers without a background check. In San Francisco, we helped introduce the first bill to ban these lethal weapons and the parts to assemble them. In Nevada, we helped advance a bill to the Nevada Senate that would also ban ghost guns and the parts to build them.
In Delaware and North Carolina, we’re fighting to uphold and strengthen permit-to-purchase laws. These common-sense measures ensure guns are only sold to people who possess a valid permit to own them. They are proven to reduce gun homicide and suicide. In North Carolina, we’re fighting against NRA-backed legislators who want to repeal the state’s system. In Delaware, we’re pushing to proactively pass a permit-to-purchase law!
Following mass shootings in Boulder and Colorado Springs, Colorado, we called on lawmakers to pass major bills to prevent gun violence. The life-saving bills would empower local governments to pass sensible gun laws to protect their own communities, ensure a background check is complete with a gun sale and prohibit people with violent misdemeanors from temporarily buying guns, and create an office of gun violence prevention. You’re Invited: "In Bad Faith: What the NRA Bankruptcy Case Means Now" In a landmark ruling this week, a judge dismissed the NRA’s attempt to claim bankruptcy and avoid accountability! We’re hosting a virtual event on Instagram to explain what this groundbreaking decision means for the movement to prevent gun violence. You’ll hear from Brady President Kris Brown and Team ENOUGH Executive Council Member Simone Paradis on Monday, May 17, at 1:30 p.m. ET.
Remembering the Million Mom March Fed up and fired up, Donna Dees Thomases started a grassroots movement with the hopes of our children growing up in a safer America. Yesterday, 21 years ago, her dreams came to life at the Million Mom March in Washington, D.C., as she mobilized over 750,000 mothers, daughters, and more in the largest march against gun violence at the time. Today, we honor and thank all of the women warriors who have continued to fight for gun violence prevention.

New Yorkers Show Support For Law Holding Gun Makers Accountable For Shootings: Poll, New York Daily News This week, Etsy showed us the powerful role that businesses can play in putting people over profits. Read more from Brady Kris Brown about why e-commerce website Etsy decided to no longer sell parts and accessories that attach to firearms. This week, a Texas judge threw out the NRA’s bankruptcy case, deeming it was filed in “bad faith.” This important ruling marks another step closer in defeating the NRA. For too long, they have cheated U.S. taxpayers in pursuit of an extremist agenda that has made our country less safe. ENOUGH. We will not rest until justice is served.
