John: Mitch McConnell really, really, really doesn't want the For the People Act to become law.
🤔 Could it be because the legislation would end the reign of dark money in politics, which McConnell greatly benefits from?
🤔 Could it be because the For the People Act would overturn many of the voter suppression bills his party is pushing at the state level?
🤔 Or maybe it's because Republicans would no longer be able to gerrymander congressional districts?
We think it's all of the above -- he doesn't want fair elections, because he knows Republicans will LOSE.
So McConnell and his allies are throwing millions of dollars into defeating the For the People Act. The McConnell strategy is to kill the legislation quietly, "under the [Capitol] dome," rather than in the court of public opinion (because the bill is wildly popular with voters). And he could get away with it, unless we fight back RIGHT NOW.
We may not have McConnell's money, but we've been building a movement for four years. Now is the time to mobilize that movement in every state to get the For the People Act across the finish line. Will you pitch in for passage of this legislation and all of the reforms we need?
