If the first part of this story that you heard was "Hamas is firing rockets at Jerusalem", then you haven't got the full picture, by any means. Escalating tensions began with the Israeli court authorizing ethnic cleansing in East Jerusalem a couple weeks ago- a Palestinian area. Then, at the beginning of Ramadan, the Israeli government closed the Damascus Gate, which is the main gate to the al Aqsa Mosque, and blocked off the steps that Palestinians are accustomed to sitting on after prayer, especially during Ramadan. This caused protests, which were met violently by Kahanists, which are Israel's equivalent of the KKK. Israeli police seemed to arrest protesters rather than violent fascists, much as we've seen American police treat black and brown people more violently than conservative white protesters. Kahanists were then allowed to march through the streets chanting "Death to Arabs", and while Zionists would say that some Arabs use the same type of language, Palestinians would never be
allowed to march through the streets of Jerusalem chanting that. And then we come back to the ethnic cleansing of East Jerusalem, or in polite terms- the forced evictions of Palestinian families from their homes. And then IDF stormed the al Aqsa Mosque during prayers. Armed soldiers, firing off flashbang grenades stormed the Mosque and arrested several people.

My opinion is constantly discounted by Zionists because I haven't been to Israel, or by Israelis because I am a diaspora Jew. We are given a choice between supporting the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians or being labeled an antisemitic Jew, or self-hating Jew. This is just preposterous and textbook gaslighting.

Israeli politics are mainly right wing, and yet "liberal" Americans feel compelled to support their crimes unconditionally. I urge my Jewish friends, especially those who criticize me for standing against the crimes of the Israeli government, to watch this video, start to finish.
