Dear Friend,

I was raised by a single mom who worked as a public school teacher, and as a father myself, I know how hard it can be for families across North Texas to balance work and child care. The pandemic has been especially hard on families with children, which is why I voted to expand the Child Tax Credit and put more money in North Texas families’ pockets.

The American Rescue Plan -- that I helped to pass and President Biden signed into law -- is a sweeping recovery package aimed at helping our country get back on its feet after the pandemic. Here’s what’s in it for families with children:

Expanded Child Tax Credit
The Child Tax Credit was expanded from $2,000 to $3,600 for children under age 6 and to $3,000 for children ages 6 to 17. The American Rescue Plan also reworked the credit so that parents can collect the credit in monthly payments of $250 or $300 (depending on the age of the child) instead of in a lump sum at the time of filing taxes, delivering more immediate benefits to families.

How to claim your increased Child Tax Credit:
File your 2020 tax returns as soon as possible to start receiving payments for each child as early as July 2021.

• 85% of children in our Congressional district will gain from expanded and improved Child Tax Credit — around 162,300 children.
• Lifts 13,400 children in the 32nd district out of poverty.
• 4,700 kids under the age of six are raised out of poverty.
• Families with children in poverty will receive $4,500 on average.
