"Police Week" started last Sunday and goes through tomorrow, Saturday, May 15. It's a time to celebrate officers who serve our communities to keep us safe. But, friend, we know that in Black communities police presence does not automatically indicate safety and security.

We know that officers only truly serve certain communities -- the white and the wealthy, specifically. We know that more often than not, our communities are seen as combat zones, with officers equipped with military-grade weapons to harass us and harm us. And we've seen too much violence at the hands of the police directed at Black communities to ever feel "safe" in their presence.

So in honor of "Police Week," we're asking people to listen to Black voices, respect our painful history with the police (that's ongoing), and support our work to build a just system. We launched The Justice For All Initiative, in partnership with The Collective PAC, to elect more Black leaders to impactful positions of power within the criminal justice system.

The only way we'll change an unjust system is by changing the laws, lawmakers, and law enforcers. Donate to The Justice For All Initiative to fund our work recruiting and supporting Black candidates committed to unapologetically pursuing justice and progressive criminal justice reform.
