Friend --
During Law Enforcement Week, we remember and honor those who
represent what is best about America - police officers who have made
the ultimate noble sacrifice by dying in the line of duty in service
to their fellow man.
Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day hold a special place
in my heart because keeping people safe has been my lifelong calling.
As a Marine Officer, I served as a prosecutor and later fought for
much needed protections for sexual assault victims in the military. My
efforts ultimately resulted in the establishment of a new evidentiary
privilege that protected critical victims’ rights.
Unfortunately, we have seen a sharp spike in violence against
police officers across our nation and in Illinois met with little or
no resistance from many elected officials. Illinoisans and Illinois’
police officers deserve better. In the Illinois legislature, I
sponsored legislation to provide additional protections for our law
enforcement and first responders who were targets of violent crimes.
As your next Governor, I will take responsibility by
continuing to support our law enforcement community as they fight to
keep our communities safe.
To honor Law Enforcement Week, I had the opportunity to join The
Annie Frey Show to discuss how we need to make sure law enforcement
has a seat at the table. Listen to my interview by clicking
here.
This week I also hosted a Facebook Live discussion with my hometown
sheriff in Monroe County, Neal Rohlfing. Sheriff Rohlfing and I
discussed some of the challenges that Illinois Law Enforcement members
are facing as a result of Democrat policies implemented with HB 3653.

This week you also may have heard me on WHCO The People Speak and
WXAN 103.9 Radio to discuss Law Enforcement Week.
Support for Law Enforcement is not a Republican issue,
it is an American issue. That is why, unlike our current
Governor, I will always stand up for and listen to members of the law
enforcement community!
