Hi Friend,
We’ve got just 17 days until the end of the current legislative session in Texas.
17 more days of Republicans pushing bad bills that sell out Texans. And 17 more days of Democrats raising hell in response.
Now, as a former state representative, I’ve been at the Capitol for my fair share of legislative sessions. Here’s how it works: every two years, for five months, our Texas lawmakers come together to tackle the biggest problems of the day. Or, in the case of Republicans, to try to pass laws making life harder for Texans in just about every way they can dream up.
By now, you’ve probably heard about the heartless, harmful, anti-Texas bills the GOP has been trying to pass -- or, in technical legislative terms, Republican bullshit. In just this session, Republicans filed more than 80 bills attacking our constitutional right to vote. That’s right, folks -- they are so scared of you casting your ballot that they’re trying 80 different ways to stop you.
You’ve heard the saying “desperate times, desperate measures.” When I look at Texas Republicans today, what I see is desperation. Hell, even Republicans aren’t out of touch enough to miss the fact that their time in power is coming to an end. So they’re trying to pass the most extreme laws they can before they get booted out of office.
Friend, if you’re like me, and you want to see this happen as soon as possible, help us do the work that will get us there. Chip in your first $7 of 2021 to register new voters, defend voting rights, and take back our state:
