It’s Mark Zuckerberg’s birthday, but if enough of us come together, we can make sure he doesn’t get what he wishes for when he blows out his candles. Add your name to our petition now to demand Facebook abandon its plans to develop Instagram for kids. [[link removed]]

For now, children under 13 can’t have an Instagram account unless it’s run by a parent or manager -- but if Zuck gets his way, that will soon change.

According to an internal memo published by BuzzFeed, Facebook plans to build a version of Instagram specifically for young, impressionable kids under 13.

Pretty crazy, right? Well we’re taking action to make sure that doesn’t happen. And if enough of us can come together today to make our voices heard, we can put a stop to it.

Sign the petition now and urge Facebook to scrap its plans to build an Instagram platform for kids:

Even as full-grown adults, problems with social media are brutally apparent and hard to navigate -- the feelings of inadequacy, the overblown focus on consumerism, and the skewed self-image it creates.

A bipartisan group of 44 attorneys general from 44 states and territories has already sent a letter to Facebook, urging Zuckerberg to abandon his plans to create Instagram for kids. The platform’s manipulative design and relentless focus on appearance, self-presentation, and branding presents challenges to adolescents’ privacy and wellbeing no matter how they spin it.

Children deserve a childhood free from the grips of social media platforms like Instagram and the toxic business practices of Facebook’s CEO’s -- so we’re gonna put a stop to Mark Zuckerberg’s birthday wish now.

Thanks,
