Dear John,
Last week we shared the exciting news that the New York Court of Appeals, the highest court in the state, has agreed to hear Happy’s landmark elephant rights case—the first time in history the highest court of any English-speaking jurisdiction will hear a habeas corpus case brought on behalf of a nonhuman being.
We want to acknowledge and thank you, John, for the crucial part you have played in fighting for Happy’s right to liberty and release to an elephant sanctuary where she can live with respect and dignity for the first time since she was torn from her natural habitat and elephant family decades ago.
Thank you to the 1.38 million people from over 90 different countries who have joined the call to free Happy from the Bronx Zoo by signing this Change.org petition.
Thank you to the tens of thousands of people who tweeted in support of the #FreeHappy campaign and raised awareness about her plight.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete action alerts calling on the Wildlife Conservation Society and the Bronx Zoo to release Happy to a sanctuary.
Thank you to everyone who has helped us in this fight so far!
In the upcoming weeks and months, we will share new ways you can help secure Happy’s freedom and raise awareness about her historic hearing. In the meantime, please read and share this blog for all the ways you can help Happy now and be sure to follow us on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn for all the latest news about Happy’s case and the fight for nonhuman animal rights.
With gratitude,
Courtney Fern
