The Unz Review Digest - May 14, 2021

This past week saw one of our closest photo-finishes, with two articles either of which would have easily ranked first in a typical week.  The top spot went to Laurent Guyénot’s major review and discussion of Prof. Sean McMeekin’s very important new book about Stalin’s role in World War II, focusing upon his substantial endorsement and incorporation of the long-controversial Suvorov Hypothesis, which argued that the Soviet Union was at the very point of invading and conquering all of Europe with its gigantic military forces in 1941 when Hitler suddenly forestalled those plans by his Barbarossa attack.  Suvorov’s seminal work was published over thirty years ago and completely overturned our understanding of that global conflict, while establishing him as probably the best-selling military historian in the human history, but although widely discussed everywhere else, it has been almost entirely blacklisted in the English-speaking world.  McMeekin has now finally broken the embargo, and brought the theory into the mainstream, with the heated resulting discussion already reaching nearly 500 comments, totaling over 90,000 words.

Just below, with readership 99% as large, was my own new piece discussing the true origins of the Covid-19 epidemic and incorporating the important new article by distinguished science journalist Nicholas Wade, who had spent more than four decades at the New York Times and other top publications.  Wade’s 11,000 word analysis strongly argues that Covid-19 was probably the product of a human laboratory then accidentally leaked, a suggestion long stigmatized as a “conspiracy theory” but now increasingly accepted by the mainstream, having also been advocated a few months ago in a 12,000 word New York cover-story by Nicholson Baker.  The obvious lab candidate is the Wuhan Institute of Virology, but I strongly point towards a third, even more remarkable possibility, namely that the outbreak represented an American biowarfare attack against China (and Iran), a scenario far more likely than the now increasingly-accepted hypothetical lab-leak.  This extremely controversial analysis quickly attracted nearly 750 comments, totaling more than 110,000 words.

Considerably below and rounding out our most popular articles were four pieces on a variety of different subjects. Still holding third place in its second week, was Mike Whitney’s extremely popular article about the terrible dangers of Covid-19 vaccines, and just below in fourth place was Kenn Gividen’s summary of last month’s long list of black-on-white killings in America, all of which were almost entirely ignored by the media, but which might easily have reached national headlines if the races were reversed, attracting over 350 comments totaling more than 40,000 words.  Next came Fred Reed’s comparison of a rapidly-rising China that makes things with a declining America that merely manipulates its currency and threatens countries and companies that want to do business with China, with some 300 comments totaling 30,000 words, followed by Philip Giraldi’s discussion of the prospects of a new military conflict in the Middle East with Iran.

A review of Sean McMeekin, Stalin’s War: A New History of World War II
On Sunday morning June 22, 1941, driven by his hatred of “Judeo-Bolshevism” and his insatiable greed for Lebensraum, Hitler treacherously broke his pact of non-aggression with Stalin and launched the invasion of the Soviet Union. Caught off guard and badly commanded, the Red Army was overwhelmed. But thanks to the heroic resistance of the Russian... Read More
As every fan of the old Perry Mason show remembers, courtroom witnesses swear "to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth." There's a reason for that particular choice of words. A pattern of selective omissions in an otherwise entirely truthful presentation can easily mislead us as much as any outright lie.... Read More
An explosive new study by researchers at the prestigious Salk Institute casts doubt on the current crop of gene-based vaccines that may pose a grave risk to public health. The article, which is titled "The novel coronavirus’ spike protein plays additional key role in illness", shows that SARS-CoV-2’s "distinctive 'spike' protein".."damages cells, confirming COVID-19 as... Earlier: 33 Whites Die (And ONE White-On-Black Murder!): MARCH 2021—Another Month In The Death Of White America During April 2021, I learned of 23 interracial conflicts that resulted in the death of white people. All of the offenders appear to be black or a person of color. Perhaps the most appalling case, instantly memory-holed by... Read More

First, America increasingly relies on strong-arm tactics instead of competence. For example, in the de facto 5G competition, Washington cannot offer Europe a better product at a better price, so it forbids European countries to buy from China. The US cannot compete with China in manufacturing, so it resorts to a trade war. The US... Read More
There has been virtually no American media coverage of last week’s arrival of a senior Israeli delegation in Washington to discuss Iran. The delegation included the head of the Israeli external intelligence service Mossad Yossi Cohen and Israel’s National Security Advisor Meir Ben-Shabbat. Their itinerary included briefings at the Pentagon and also with national security... Read More
As you are probably aware, the tranny Bruce Jenner is running for Governor of California as a Republican. As you may not be aware, Republicans appear to be actually embracing the idea of a “conservative tranny.” On Wednesday night, Fox News aired an interview Sean Hannity did with Bruce Jenner, wherein Hannity is sitting across... The anti-Asian hate attacks by the blacks are continuing all across the United States. Most of the news outlets are covering them up, even as they line the Twitter page of the NYPD Hate Crimes account. Here are a few recent tweets from them, with the newest being only a few hours old: The media... Read More

You can’t have it both ways. Either the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is composed of a group of mad psychopaths who are controlling most of the world or it is a bit of a kabuki performance consisting of poseurs playing bizarre, stylized characters that seek to provide amusement for an audience prepared to watch an... So what was preordained has finally taken place. Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has now been convicted of the murder of George Floyd. While many, possibly even most, Americans would agree that Chauvin exceeded what was necessary in his use of force, the prosecution never proved that he intended to either kill or severely... Why would anyone allow himself to be injected with a substance for which the long-term adverse effects are completely unknown? It's extremely dangerous. And, yet, millions of people around the world have already been inoculated with a hybrid concoction that was not approved by the FDA, did not meet the same rigorous standards for safety... Read More
One hypothesis about the Anglo-Saxon world is that Britain 1.0 has been superseded by Britain 2.0, such that the latter gets updated first, and the former always lags behind, under threat of being discontinued. As a consequence, the US fashions in race relations have late echoes in the UK. Here are two little stories about... Read More
I’m in a tiny Tirana café built around a eucalyptus tree. John Belushi, the Madonna and someone’s deceased grandma charm its wooden walls. I sip a macchiato to start my day. At the bar, an old man in an old suit orders a raki. It’s not quite nine, yet he’s downing a shot of five-alarm... Read More
Sparked by Tucker Carlson’s remarkable move towards the Jewish Question, the recent condemnation of the ADL issued by 1,500 rabbis associated with the Coalition for Jewish Values (CJV) has once more raised the question as to whether destructive activity perpetrated by Jewish activists in America is a matter of denomination rather than ethnicity. For several... Read More
One cannot but feel mildly amused at the theatrical spectacle of the US troop pullout from Afghanistan, its completion day now postponed for maximum PR impact to 9/11, 2021. The Biden Administration has gone out of its way to show itself as absolutely “woke-compatible” and even as a champion of “wokeness” (Foggy Bottom has just allowed US embassies and consulates to fly the “gay pride” flag next to the Stars and Stripes. Why do they hate Elon Musk? The head of Tesla and SpaceX should be a progressive hero. Leftists lecture us about “climate change” and why we need a Green New Deal. We have entered a new era in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The old days of Israel committing war crimes against the downtrodden, captive Palestinians are over. I moved to Santiago, Chile during the Obama years: 2012, to be exact. I believed, as did many others, that the real financial reckoning was still to come, that race relations would worsen (bullseye there and then some!!), and that other countries were better prospects as havens for individual freedoms than a U.S. in decline....
