I’m excited to share this news with you: Earlier this week, the House passed my bipartisan bill to stop the cycle of violence in our communities.

I’ve been fighting for this measure for a long time. It’s inspired by the successful violence prevention program at University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center (a place that has been deeply personal to me ever since its staff saved my life after a serious car accident years ago), which provides victims of violent crime with counseling and critical resources -- like job training and groceries -- to help prevent them from becoming repeat victims or even perpetrators of violent crime, stop the cycle of violence, and save taxpayers billions in related expenses.

My bill will provide $10 million in grants to hospitals across the country to create or expand programs similar to the one at Shock Trauma.

Working together to make a real impact for good in our communities is what makes me love what I do and makes me determined to keep fighting for Maryland families in Congress.

But there’s a problem: Washington Republicans are determined to put a stop to the progress my colleagues and I are building by retaking the House. And recently, we learned upcoming redistricting could give the GOP the upper hand across the country.

The FEC mid-quarter deadline is fast-approaching. I know this past year has been hard on a lot of families and not everyone is in a position to contribute right now. That’s more than OK. But if you are able to chip in a few dollars before the deadline, it would make a big difference for our campaign and my fight for Maryland values in Congress. [[link removed]]
