Traditionally after each election, thousands of campaign staff and field organizers get laid off until it’s time to resume voter outreach for the next election cycle — about a year later.
But this whole idea that you only need to campaign in an election year is one reason why Democrats have fallen short. We cannot organize, phone bank, host community events, and share important conversations with our neighbors only when it’s time to vote.
Our campaign isn’t slowing down or taking an “off year” — we’re investing in keeping organizing staff on the ground, continuing volunteer work year-round, and building momentum for our progressive movement across the country. That’s why it’s so important that we keep up with our monthly fundraising goals this year — but right now we’re about halfway through May, and we’re not halfway towards our goal.
To be totally honest, April was a slower fundraising month than we expected, so we had to adjust our May goal to make up some ground. Every donation, no matter how much, we receive today helps us meet this crucial target and ensures we don’t fall behind.
We only rely on grassroots supporters — reading emails like this one — to fund this campaign. And the donations we receive from you help set budgets for these critical organizing programs in 2021. If our numbers come up short, we may not be able to follow through on 100% of our plan.
