We're expanding our response to Nepal to save lives from COVID-19
Expanding Our Emergency Response to Nepal |
Dear Friend, again the news coming out of South Asia is alarming health officials and the world at large. Nepal, which shares a long border with India, is now setting its own daily records for COVID-19 cases and deaths, meaning the devastating spread of the disease is continuing.
Nepal is experiencing a 1,200% increase in COVID-19 infections — the country’s positivity rate is 47%, one of the highest in the world. As in India, Nepal has reported serious shortages of PPE, oxygen, beds, and ventilators, and hospitals have been forced to turn people away due to a lack of supplies. There are fewer than 1,600 ICU beds in all of Nepal.
That’s why we have to act to save lives and help end these health disasters now. Please make a compassionate emergency gift today to save lives and support health workers and people in crisis around the world. Because of the growing needs, a dedicated and generous group of Project HOPE supporters are matching all gifts 2X. |
What we're doing now...
• In India, our teams have received our initial shipment of 500,000 masks and are now distributing them in Odisha State. Procurements of other supplies and equipment are well underway in both India and Nepal.
• Trainings on the latest in the care of critical COVID-19 patients are being provided to over 60 doctors and nurses this week. Further trainings on vaccine science and rollout mechanisms are already scheduled for next week.
• Project HOPE’s India and Nepal teams continue to coordinate with local partners and officials to distribute urgently needed medical supplies like PPE, oxygen supplies and ventilators.
