Individual recognition for professional youth workers with 15+ years’ experience

The North South Education and Training Standards Committee for Youth Work (NSETS) has recently approved a process whereby those who do not hold qualifications specifically in youth work but who have been continuously engaged in professional youth work practice for 15 years can apply for a statement of individual recognition. We are working with the Union of Students in Ireland to conduct research on the experiences of young people aged 17-25 living in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland when obtaining motor insurance. Read more >> ([link removed])

We want young people to inject meaningful and actionable ideas into the Conference on the Future of Europe and empower young people from all walks of life to become active citizens. Young voices inform Growing Up in Ireland research

The Growing Up in Ireland (GUI) study team and the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth would like input from young voices aged 24-26 to inform and plan upcoming GUI research. This consultation is being organised to help inform the next wave of the study which will collect information from participants when they are 25 years old. Read more >> ([link removed])



** Dedicated Liaison Person training

This is a two-day training programme delivered by the Child Protection Programme for DLPs and Deputy DLPs in the youth sector. Its aim is to give participants the opportunity to explore the role and responsibilities of being a DLP, and to give participants information and guidance on good practice in order to carry out the role effectively. Introduction to circus skills in youth work

This tailored training is designed in partnership with Dublin Circus School to enhance your youth work toolkit by adding a range of beginner circus skills. It provides practical tips and a beginner circus toolkit and aims to enhance your creative ability, artistic skills, and confidence when working with young people. ** Survey: Space and participation for all

The National Youth Council of Ireland has been consulting young people in Ireland through the EU Youth Dialogue process on the topic of “Space and Participation for All”. Young people should have access to their right to participate in democracy and this means removing barriers and creating equal opportunity and building bridges between young people and political institutions. ** NYCI welcomes 'Vote at 16' bill
------------------------------------------------------------

NYCI welcomed a bill introduced by Thomas Pringle TD in the Dáil that would see voting rights extended to over 128,000 young people aged 16 and 17. James Doorley, NYCI Deputy Director said: “NYCI supports the Voting at 16 bill being proposed by Deputy Pringle. We have been calling for voting rights for 16 and 17-year-olds since we launched our ‘New Age in Voting’ campaign in 2009, and this bill is a positive step in the right direction.” Read more >> ([link removed])

Reaching out to minority ethnic Irish young people

Dr Maria Barry and Dr. Malgosia Machowska-Kosciak of Dublin City University are carrying out a piece of research that aims to gather and examine the opinions, experience, and future intentions of minority ethnic young people in Ireland aged 18-24. We are helping them connect with second generation Irish young people to participate in an online focus group. Find out more >> ([link removed])

Covid-19: guidance for youth services

We continue to work with officials in the department to revise the guidance in response to any new restrictions and will continue to update the Guidance for Youth Organisations on Resuming Full Services ([link removed]) . Youth Work Ireland survey

Our friends at Youth Work Ireland are doing a survey to better understand the experiences of young people growing up in Ireland and to support their voices to be heard in the decisions that affect their lives. ** Gaisce Gold residential option

** Irish Girl Guides spread wave of kindness
------------------------------------------------------------

Members of Irish Girl Guides (IGG) were delighted to get back to outdoor guiding in time for National Good Turn Week, which kicked off on 10 May. Good Turns can be done at home, at school, or in their local community. As well as helping with chores at home, IGG members get together during National Good Turn Week to do litter picks, beach clean-ups, and bulb-planting. This is a €1.2 million three-year Rethink Ireland fund. The fund is open for applications until 5 pm on June 2nd, 2021. The aim of the fund is to support organisations that empower young people and adults through education and seek to break the poverty cycle as a result. Find out more >> ([link removed])

Peer advocacy group for young people with sight loss

** Career guidance needs: minority ethnic students

A doctoral research project is being conducted on the career guidance needs of minority ethnic students and the competences of guidance counsellors to meet these needs. This has been a topic of concern and interest for many minority ethnic young people and this is a unique opportunity to have your say and make a real difference. View the survey >> ([link removed])


** Concern: 1Planet4All

Concern Worldwide has just launched a new campaign called 1Planet4All which focuses on the climate change crisis and will focus on young people taking action and becoming climate change activists. A part of this campaign is developing resources that can be used by youth organisations, so Concern is looking for youth workers to complete a short survey to help develop useful and practical tools. ** Survey: What makes a good life?
------------------------------------------------------------

The National Economic and Social Council (NESC) has been requested by the Department of the Taoiseach to support work towards developing a wellbeing framework for Ireland. The government has committed to develop a framework that will look beyond economic indicators to give us a more holistic picture of where we are and where we want to be as a society.
