“What we’re seeing in Sheikh Jarrah and Gaza is an emboldened settler colonial project, protected by and militarily funded by the U.S. to perpetuate the violent repression, mass displacement and incarceration of Palestinians. When I traveled to Palestine in 2018, we visited al-Khalil (Hebron), it was the definition of a city under a militarized occupation. We visited with a Palestinian family of nine. The father had two sons murdered by soldiers, and third physically assaulted. The occupation had barricaded
portions of the home so the family could only access a small living room and kitchen, forced to keep their house unlocked at all times. We must defund from harm and invest in justice.”
—Ramon Mejía, GGJ demilita-RISE National OrganizerOn one of the holiest days in the Islamic calendar, Eid al-Fitr, residents of Gaza were bombarded by Israel, killing over 69 Palestinians, including 17 children. Mainstream media has been framing the ethnic violence by an occupying force as “clashes,” noting false equivalency between Israel’s military might and Palestinian people’s defense of their lands and human rights. American taxpayers have been funding an unending cycle of ethnic violence of Israeli occupation, which has been ongoing since 1948. The Trump administration approved $3.8 billion in military funding to Israel every year for 10 years starting 2019. We call on
Biden to stop enabling Israel’s impunity and war crimes. In Colombia for weeks–students, union members, workers–are rising to protest their right-wing government’s tax reforms, cuts to social safety net and erosion of labor protections during the pandemic as inequalities soar and police brutality amplifies. The protestors are contending with a brutal militarized response that has killed many civilians in Cali, among other places, and injured hundreds. The U.S. continues to send military aid to, both, Colombia and
Palestine. We support calls to stop funding repressive right-wing governments and endorse the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement. Here are actions you can take NOW:Support H.R. 2590: Representative Betty McCollum's historic bill, H.R. 2590, the Palestinian Children and Families Act ‘insists on the rights to safety, dignity, and freedom for the Palestinian people: the freedom to thrive, free from child detention, home demolitions, continual Israeli annexation and land theft.
