Dear John,
During a week when the headlines are full of heartbreaking violence amidst the escalating conflict in Israel, as anti-Israel demonstrations feature expressions of antisemitism and as alarming incidents are reported in Europe, we want to assure you that ADL continues to monitor and advocate against antisemitism wherever it shows up. We want to let you know what we at ADL are doing to combat this hate — and how we can help you and your communities.
The loss of innocent life is devastating, with fatalities, including children, climbing among both Israelis and Palestinians.
ADL’s Israel-based staff has been dealing with the blare of sirens and rocket attacks driving them and their families into shelters. Amidst this terror and the thunder of Israeli counterstrikes, they have been leveraging our long years as a leader in Israeli coexistence to bring together an apolitical coalition of nongovernment organizations to protect the delicate fabric of social cohesion. We are convening Jewish and Arab groups to provide responsible voices to urge de-escalation of the situation and prevent further radicalization, particularly among young people.
Sadly, during the conflict, rioting, arson and looting have broken out in Israeli cities where Jewish and Arab residents have long lived peacefully as neighbors. We strongly condemn these lawless mob acts of hate and extremism. We support the words of Israel’s president Reuven Rivlin:
“The violent disturbances yesterday are a genuine threat to Israeli sovereignty. We must not allow it and must speak out for the rule of law and shared existence. Extremists must not set the tone. We the moderate majority, Jews and Arabs, want to continue to live here together.”
ANTISEMITISM FLARES WORLDWIDE
Tensions in the Middle East often lead to an increase in antisemitic incidents targeting Jewish institutions and Jewish individuals, particularly in Europe.
In the U.S., we are seeing antisemitism and support for terrorism on display in anti-Israel protests in the streets and elsewhere.
In Germany, police have arrested over a dozen people for throwing stones at a synagogue, starting a fire at a Holocaust memorial and burning an Israeli flag at a Jewish site.
In the UK, there have been disturbing media reports of a 250% rise in antisemitic incidents in that country, linked to the conflict.
Our regional offices, our Center on Extremism and our international experts are monitoring anti-Israel protests across the U.S. and globally, as well as anti-Israel activity on college campuses, related to the conflict, especially when these demonstrations feature images and language that cross into antisemitism. Our experts are in contact with tech platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, where the flood of hate is spiking and where their terms of service for such incidents need to be upheld. If you spot an antisemitic post or tweet, you can report it to the social platform.
On Capitol Hill, ADL is closely monitoring potential legislation now under discussion. We are also providing expertise to members of Congress about the importance of ensuring that legitimate discussions of Israeli policy do not cross the line into problematic actions, and how to do so.
YOU CAN PLAY A ROLE
Jewish students, whether on campus or online, often bear the brunt of anti-Israel and antisemitic sentiments in times like this; we encourage you to share our

Finally, if you have experienced or witnessed an incident of antisemitism or extremism, you can report it using our

These are trying times, and ADL is here to protect our community and to fight hate and antisemitism. So thank you for your support, and know that we are here as a resource and advocate, and please contact us if we can help you or your community.
Sincerely,
