Hi there --
We aren't out of the woods when it comes to the COVID-19 pandemic, and already Republicans are enacting brutal cuts to life-saving programs around the country.
Most recently, several Republican governors declared they would stop accepting the $300 per week federal unemployment insurance benefit that was passed by Congress to supplement state unemployment benefits. The affected states include Arkansas, Montana, and South Carolina, with more expected to follow.
The enhanced unemployment payments are a critical lifeline for millions of Americans. While we wait for more people to get vaccinated and reduce our COVID infection rate, the economy will continue to operate at less than full capacity. Cutting off all benefits while millions of workers have not yet been able to return to work could cause tremendous financial pain and sabotage our economic recovery.
The sad truth is that Republicans know how successful the expanded unemployment insurance program has been, and they are looking for a way to sabotage it. They're scared that they are going to lose in 2022 and will spare no one in their plans to win.
Your hard work in 2020 helped make this expanded program and so much more possible. We can't backslide in 2022.
