After decades of blocking progress, the American Petroleum Institute (API) has spent the last several months attempting to rebrand as champions of environmental safety and climate action.

Our team at Accountable.US has issued a clear warning: Don’t fall for it. The API’s cynical strategy is to voice support for tepid reforms in an effort to dilute the Biden-Harris administration’s ambitious climate agenda.

In their latest scheme, the API is sponsoring the 2021 International Oil Spill Conference, where they’ll argue that oil pipelines can be safe and environmentally friendly. What they don’t want you to know is that, since 2010 alone, API members have been responsible for 215 million gallons of oil and gas spills -- and many of these spills were caused by pipeline failures.
