Texas has been one of the fastest growing states in the nation for many years, thanks to heavy growth in diverse, Democratic-leaning cities and suburbs. Theoretically, all those new Democratic voters should translate into more Democrats representing Texas in Congress -- but not if Republican mapmakers have their way!
The Texas GOP is planning to use their control of the governor's office and the state legislature, as well as sophisticated mapping software, to "pack" and "crack" Democratic voters in fast-growing cities and give more power to white and Republican-leaning communities.
We're fighting back by educating the public about the need for fair maps that accurately represent our communities and ensure everyone has equal representation in Congress. And if redistricting officials fail to draw fair maps, we'll be working to hold them accountable. But we're counting on supporters like you to help us keep fighting!
