Hi John,
We wanted to make sure you didn't miss this important
update regarding election reform legislation in Wisconsin.
Key election reform bills are making their way through
the Wisconsin State Legislature. These bills include:
Ending "ballot harvesting" by stipulating that only a
voter, their immediate family member or legal guardian may return
a voted absentee ballot (SB203)
Requiring any event at which voted absentee ballots
are returned to the municipal clerk, or his or her staff, to
comply with the same requirements for an early in-person voting
location (i.e. "Democracy in the Park" type events) (SB203)
Ending the curing of ballots (SB212)
Requiring WEC to publish their minutes (SB208)
Broadcasting election night proceedings (SB292)
While our legislators continue to push bills through the
lawmaking process, there are outside organizations who are
mounting legal challenges, particularly concerning the ongoing
inquiry into Wisconsin's five major cities who took in large
amounts of "Zuckerbucks."
The State Senate and State Assembly are also considering
election reform bills regarding preventing outside groups from
exercising undue influence in election administration as we saw
in Green Bay and other cities. You can read the full Assembly
bill here and the Senate bill here.
