Dear John,

As you may already know, this week is National Infrastructure Week in Providence and around the country.

Infrastructure goes beyond concrete, steel, bricks and mortar to include the wider social framework that allows people to thrive and to provide for their families. We must consider the roads, the rails, the airports and the seaports, the drinking and wastewater systems, the inland waterways, the broadband internet and similar systems when we make plans for a more inclusive path forward for Providence.

In my tenure as Mayor of Providence, we announced a first-of-its-kind $24.75 million Affordable Housing Bond to stimulate affordable housing construction, a huge milestone and a recognition of affordable housing as infrastructure. Our legacy as the Creative Capital grew when we  recognized art as infrastructure, calling upon residents to submit poetry and word art to install in our city sidewalks and awarding the 30 chosen artists with $1,000 dollars each.

These efforts, along with our ambitious goals for the future, will allow Rhode Islanders to thrive and create opportunities for future generations. These innovative  infrastructure goals will ensure that we create a modern and inclusive economy.  We need to continue to address the challenges of climate change, income inequality and access to educational opportunities. So I am asking:

Can you make a contribution-of any amount you can afford- to help us fight for this future for all?

Your support is greatly appreciated and it goes a long way in building an inclusive and progressive Providence.

Thanks for all that you do.

Jorge
