In just a minute, I will ask you to add a contribution to my re-election campaign before our critical mid-month deadline tomorrow. But first, I’d like to explain why your support is so important — especially now.

I’m so thrilled to let you know that End Citizens United, an organization dedicated to getting dark money out of politics, has just endorsed our campaign.

You might be surprised to hear this, but a large portion of our budget comes from grassroots contributions to emails just like this one. I’m the only Democratic Senator up for re-election that’s refusing to accept a single cent of corporate PAC and federal lobbyist money.

From day one, I wanted this team to be fueled by hard-working folks chipping in what they could for a movement we all believe in. I never want there to be a question of who I work for — that answer will always be the people of Colorado.

Look, this isn’t the easy path. And it makes us especially vulnerable to outside attacks now that Washington Republicans and their mega-donors are gearing up to retake the Senate.

But I’ve seen the power of this grassroots team. I know if we dig deep and work together, we can overcome anything thrown our way. But I have to admit, I’m a little worried about reaching our mid-month goal.
