Hey John,

My name is Rogelio, and I’m part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Sunrise hub. I wanted to share with you a story about something that happened to me recently.

The other night, a friend called and asked me if I wanted to join him to march 400 miles — all the way from New Orleans to Houston — to highlight the need for bold climate action in the Gulf South.

At first, I laughed and thanked him for the invite. But when I woke up the next morning, still exhausted from work the night before, I started to think about my generation. We’re burnt out from years of working low-wage jobs. For those of us in school, it often feels like we’re acquiring more anxiety than knowledge; more student debt than opportunities.

And in the end, what does any of this mean if the future of our planet is uncertain?

At that moment, I made a choice to recommit to this movement. I called him back and signed up for the Generation on Fire march.
