Friends -

Back in 2006, I introduced the first ever net neutrality bill in the House, one that would ensure a free and open Internet for all.

Since then, the Internet has become an even more integral part of our lives. It’s changed how we work, how we learn, and how we stay connected — and like running water, heat, or electricity, it is no longer a luxury. The Internet is an essential utility, a fact the COVID-19 pandemic has only made more clear.

In 2017, the Trump administration’s FCC repealed rules allowing their regulation of internet service providers. Since then, we’ve come close to restoring net neutrality, but Republicans in Congress have kept that legislation from ever making it over the finish line.

Now, however — with a Democratic House, Senate, and White House — we have an historic opportunity to right one of the many wrongs of the Trump administration once and for all.

We cannot continue to allow a small handful of wealthy and powerful corporations to dictate our futures online. Can I count on you to join me in this fight?

Please sign my petition and tell Democratic leadership you support restoring net neutrality and guaranteeing a free and open Internet for all. This is important. [[link removed]]

The strength of our democracy relies on a free and open Internet. Net neutrality is a civil rights issue, and key to our progressive movement for justice and equity.

From Black Lives Matter to the climate justice movement, from frontline workers fighting for fair wages and protections to high school students demanding gun safety reform — the torch of American activism is being carried not just in the streets, but online as well. In today’s age of digital organizing and global activism, a free and open Internet is more important now than ever before.

We cannot stop fighting until net neutrality is the law of the land. But the huge broadband and telecom corporations are hard at work too, trying to put a stop to our momentum on this issue and many, many others.

That’s why this is so important, and why I’m humbly asking you today:

Add your name to my petition — tell Democratic leadership you support restoring net neutrality and guaranteeing a free and open Internet for all. [[link removed]]

86 percent of Americans agree with me that the Internet should be open, chaotic, and democratic. We must continue to organize to save net neutrality. Now’s the time to get it done.

Thank you for standing with me and adding your voice today.

In solidarity,

Ed Markey
