Decorated Veteran Joins the Foundation Broadcast Team for a Cameo Appearance!
Tuesday, August 13 was another big day for our Foundation's radio broadcast team! We were delighted to have a guest commentator on hand to share his thoughts on Veterans' benefits and the details our veterans need to know to take full advantage of the benefits they've earned through their service. Thomas Spencer, Veterans' Liaison from VITAS Healthcare, joined us for the first of what turned out to be a three-part overview of federal benefits programs available to Veterans. This three-part series was broadcast on our August 19-21 daily WFAX programs, and will be included later this year in our podcast series available through the Foundation's website...stay tuned for details!

Thomas, who has conducted several lectures on this subject for us over the past year, is a highly decorated veteran of multiple foreign combat theaters and served as a liaison for elected members of both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate. He also worked for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for a decade, and is incredibly well-versed in the intricacies of government bureaucracies.

For those interested in the content of Thomas' remarks, check out a recorded version of his presentation in our 2019 workshop series, available on our Foundation website. Thomas will be appearing in our workshop schedule in the future, sharing his insights into the benefits information our Veterans need to know.

"As a 22-year Army Veteran who served in Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom, and as a Civilian Advisor to the Afghan Army in Operation Enduring Freedom, I understand both the gravity of giving the order, and the challenge of carrying it out."

Detail Planning Underway for "Aging at Home" Expo
Many of you are aware that we've been considering the topic of "Aging at Home" or "Aging in Place," a topic that is growing in prominence among older folks intent on stating put in their homes as long as they can. In fact, as we noted in our recent website post announcing our date for an Exposition exploring this subject, more than 90% of today's seniors favor this approach, since it tends to offer more in the way of comfort and familiarity.

So, we've now set the date for this Expo: Wednesday, January 29, 2020. We know that we have a fair amount of detail planning ahead of us as we line up the exhibitors and speakers to cover what folks need to know, what steps they need to take to achieve this goal, and what services are available to them as they pursue the peace of mind of aging at home. Exhibitor space will be limited, so we'll be issuing a public newspaper announcement soon with a "Call for Exhibitors" that will enable interested parties to indicate their interest in participating in this venture. Watch for it in local media outlets!

As an added benefit, our specially focused expo will be complimentary to the Lady Lake Library's annual Wellness Fair, making the day an opportunity to do "one-stop shopping" for resources critical to your present and future well-being. We're pleased to have the opportunity to work alongside our colleagues at the Lady Lake Library to bring a wealth of valuable information to our constituents!

Welcome, Guest Contributors!
If you've been following our weekly blog posts (and we hope that you are!), you've seen a variety of articles and informational pieces covering topics that our editorial staff believes are of interest to America's Seniors. These topics have ranged from multigenerational housing to internet security, with a host of safety tips and articles about Social Security and Medicare as well. We even throw in somewhat humorous topics from time-to-time, like our brief essay titled "A 'Senior Moment' Explained."

Our intent with these articles, which can be found on the Foundation website's "Interesting Info" page, is to simply add breadth to the content we convey to our constituency. Lately, we've been fortunate to have "guest contributors" step forth and offer content that we believe will help with this objective, and we welcome these blog contributions for consideration. Here are some fairly recent examples of contributions from guest contributors: Having ideas and information from a wide variety of sources can go a long way toward making our website an informative tool for our readers. We welcome contributions from subject matter experts as a valuable addition to what we do.
