In Congress, one of my top priorities is making sure American families have the child care they need.
The lack of affordable, accessible child care was a problem before the pandemic -- but now it’s a full-blown crisis. In San Diego, more than 500 providers have had to close their doors, making a bad problem even worse.
The reality is that we’ll never be able to fully re-open our economy and recover from COVID-19 if we don’t have child care infrastructure in place to help parents to get back to work.
That’s why I’m excited to partner with Senator Elizabeth Warren and Congressman Mondaire Jones to introduce the Universal Child Care and Early Learning Act, a bill that devotes $700 billion for universal child care, including major investments in child care facilities.
This plan would be a game-changer for working parents, but it’s hard to ignore the political realities. Republicans are ready to take back the House majority in 2022, which would prevent our chances of getting a plan like this passed. Democrats can’t afford to lose a single seat next year. Today, I’m asking you to contribute anything you can to protect this seat and the House majority.

Together, we can keep making progress for American families and make sure everyone has the help they need to raise happy, healthy kids.
