John,

Did you see Esther’s story below? If we don’t act now, millions of
children like her could miss out on the education they deserve to fulfill
their dreams.  Will you add your voice to our petition urging governments
to invest in quality education for all children wherever they live?

John,

Ten-year-old Esther Okore from Lagos, Nigeria is a studious child who
wants to become a doctor so she can help people. But the pandemic has put
down her hopes and dreams.

During the COVID-19 lockdown her father lost his job and her family could
not afford remote online learning classes. Despite her desire to learn,
she now risks falling behind and never catching up.

Many of us have seen the impact of COVID-19 on our children’s education.
But for Esther and millions of children living in vulnerable countries,
the pandemic has worsened a learning crisis that could put a definitive
stop to their education.

In the coming months, world leaders will meet to agree on a plan to end
the global learning crisis. Add your name to our petition urging them to
invest in quality education for all children, whether they live in New
York City, Paris or Lagos.

Before the pandemic, a shocking 90% of 10-year-olds in low-income
countries couldn’t read and understand something simple like a health
leaflet or a school test. COVID-19 will make this number even worse and
could push 20 million more girls out of school forever.

If we don’t act now, we risk losing the next generation of doctors,
scientists and leaders to help us tackle future global health crises and
more. But there is a way out: governments must fund education adequately
and ensure that all children - especially the most marginalized - access
quality education and stay in school.

Will you add your voice to our petition urging the US government to act?
The petition reads:

Dear President Biden,

Please commit to a future in which every 10-year-old everywhere can
acquire the essential literacy skills they need to thrive. Protect and
expand education budgets and fully fund the Global Partnership for
Education so that the most vulnerable children, including girls, are not
left behind.
