I am so excited to announce that NIRH’s 2019 Local Reproductive Freedom Index will be live in just a few weeks!

As you may remember, when we released the first edition of the Local Index two years ago, it was a first-of-its-kind initiative designed to analyze reproductive health, rights, and justice policies in 40 of the nation's most populous cities.

This time, we’ve upped the ante: in addition to updated data on the 40 cities we scored in 2017, we’ve added another 10 municipalities and will be showcasing our findings in a redesigned report and website where you can dig into all of the nuts and bolts of the Local Index.

I’m so proud of this report, John. Cities, counties, and other localities have a unique opportunity to mitigate a hostile climate created by the federal and state governments – and many cities across the country have risen to the occasion, exemplifying what it looks like to resist state and federal assaults on reproductive health care.

In addition to individual city scorecards for each municipality featured in the report, the 2019 Local Index also includes a self-scoring tool, NIRH’s “Model City” for reproductive freedom, and resources for advocates, community leaders, and elected officials who would like to advance reproductive freedom in their cities. John, the Local Index goes live on October 21, so mark your calendars now! I’ll be back in touch then with our full report at the ready, and a rundown of some of our interesting findings from our wide scope of research.
