John,

Across the country, we are seeing state after state introduce, and in many
cases, pass extremely restrictive voter suppression bills that are
designed to give Republicans an advantage on the local, state, and federal
levels.

From Georgia to Florida and Texas, Republican lawmakers are doing
everything they can to make sure that they maximize Republican voting
power by weakening the voting power of Black and Brown voters.

Just take a brief look at a few of the changes these laws will make:

Georgia

* Reduces the time voters have to apply for and request vote-by-mail
ballots.
* Creates new voter ID requirements.
* Limits the number of ballot drop boxes.
* Keeps people from giving out food and water to voters within 150 feet
of a polling place.

Florida

* Places limits on the use of drop boxes.
* Requires voters to more regularly request vote by mail ballots.
* Limits the people who can drop off ballots for a voter.

Texas

* Makes it a felony to give voters a vote by mail application if they
didn’t request one.
* Prohibits the use of any unstaffed drop boxes.
* Limits early voting hours.
* Eliminates the use of certain “mobile” and drive-through polling
places.
* Changes the standards that determine polling places and election
equipment.

These laws make it clear that our work to fight voter suppression across

Our democracy should work for all of us, regardless of where we live, what
our political leanings are, what the color of our skin is, or the amount
of money we have in our bank accounts.

But under the guise of preventing voter fraud, Republican lawmakers are
successfully passing voting restrictions that they believe will undo all
of the progress we have made in building a more inclusive, representative
democracy.

DFA will push back on voter suppression anywhere and everywhere it is
advanced.
