Dear John,

Climate action plans work best when they are informed by people. Not by big business or vested interest groups. So I was delighted when the Government agreed to open a public consultation on climate change this year. This consultation gives ordinary people a crucial opportunity to have their say on climate action - and to help inform Ireland’s climate action plan for 2021 and beyond.

But this window of opportunity to have your voice heard on climate action is closing soon. The consultation closes next Tuesday, 18th May, so it’s time to get working on your submission fast!

We’ve made this easy for you by making a Climate Consultation cheatsheet [[link removed]] to help guide your answers. Our cheat sheet goes through each question, giving you some answering tips and some pointers on what to write about.

I’m delighted that the Government has launched this consultation. But I’m concerned that many of the questions in the consultation don’t address the scale of change needed to achieve the emission reductions we need. Nor do they address the need for a systems change approach to climate action - that puts climate justice at its heart.

That’s why it’s crucial that lots of people submit to the consultation - and write about the need for systems change and climate justice in their answers. Our cheatsheet [[link removed]] will help you do this - we’ve identified places in the consultation where you can write about these issues - and provided some pointers on what you can say.

So will you read the cheatsheet [[link removed]] and start your submission ? Yes, I’ll act now - before the 18th May deadline [[link removed]]

Our cheatsheet [[link removed]] has everything you need to make a submission to the climate consultation. But if you’d like more support the Irish Environmental Network is hosting a webinar at 7pm tonight, to help people submit to this climate consultation. You can register for that webinar here [[link removed]].

John, the climate movement has been calling for greater public consultation on climate action for years. Now we’ve finally got this precious opportunity to make our voices heard. Let’s make sure it doesn’t slip by.

Don’t worry if you feel like you don’t have the expertise to make a submission - it’s your opinion and insight that matters. Our cheatsheet will help guide you and you can keep your answers short if you like. The most important thing is to raise your voice in support of climate action and climate justice.

Will you make your submission now? Yes, I’ll submit to the climate consultation [[link removed]]

Good luck with your submission and thanks for all you do!

In solidarity,

Áine
