House Republicans just successfully forced a vote to oust Liz Cheney from their leadership. Why? Because she had the courage to tell the truth.

Listen, I don't agree with Liz on much when it comes to policy, and she defended Trump for far too long. But at least she reached the point where she could defend him no more, and refused to push Trump's “Big Lie.” She was one of the few Republicans who stood against the vile falsehoods that incited the insurrection and shook our democracy to its very core.

The vote to oust Cheney represents a line in the sand in today's Republican Party: Support Trump’s lies and the decline of our democracy – or you will be replaced. As Mitt Romney experienced, recently booed by his own party, there is no room for people of good conscience in Trump’s GOP.

The dangerous evolution of the Republican Party into an anti-truth, autocratic cult has never been more clear, or our need to fight it.
