The most vital step to dismantling the drug war and disrupting racist policing is to decriminalize all drugs. Ending arrests and harsh punishment for drug use and possession – decriminalizing all drugs – is the single biggest step we can take to end this crisis.

Our members are helping us advance drug policy reforms that seemed unimaginable only a few years ago. Thanks to our supporters:

===New York and New Mexico legalized marijuana for adult use. New York City used to be the marijuana arrest capital of the country, but today New York State is a model for comprehensive marijuana reform.

===We got the MORE Act passed in the U.S. House. It’s the first comprehensive marijuana reform legislation to deschedule marijuana – and the only one centered in reparative justice – to pass either chamber of Congress.

===We worked with a coalition of partners to get Congress to repeal the “drug question” that made students ineligible for federal financial aid if they had been convicted of a drug crime.

But there is more work to be done. Someone is still arrested for simple drug possession every 23 seconds. DPA’s fiscal year-end is approaching, and we need your financial support to continue to advance reform and end this disastrous drug war.

Drug decriminalization is possible. In November, we claimed victory in Oregon. It became the first state in the nation to treat drug use as a health issue, not a criminal problem, by decriminalizing personal possession of all drugs while expanding access to vital health, harm reduction, and recovery services.

The funds raised before we close the books on this fiscal year will help us fight for decriminalization in states across the country, and in Congress. As I mentioned earlier, with your support, major change can become a reality.
