My mother lived to the age of 92 and I don’t think she ever witnessed evil in her presence. She lived a suburban life, largely protected from people who might hurt her. I am glad of that. I’ve seen too much evil in my life. El Salvador, Northern Ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan, Rodney King riots, heinous crimes in New York City. I’ve seen it.
