All Americans want workers to have paid time off when they or loved ones are ill, or following the birth or adoption of a child.

Unfortunately, a new, proposed federal paid leave program doesn’t target assistance at those who need it, but rather would sweep away existing paid leave packages for all American workers. This means:

  • Larger wage gaps between men and women
  • Fewer women in top employment positions
  • Lower wages and lower lifetime earnings for women
  • Money being transferred from poorer workers to higher-income workers

Do you think think there are better ways to help workers who need it?

CHAMPION MESSAGE

"If you are born in America, you’ve already won life’s great lottery. If you are an educated woman in America, then right now, after all these glass ceilings have been broken and all these companies want to hire you, then you only have to decide how hard do you want to work."

HURTING NOT HELPING

Government Paid Leave Is a Gift Moms Should Return

The president’s American Families Plan offers an annual benefit of 12 weeks of paid leave for workers facing a personal illness, the illness of a loved one, a new child, bereavement, sexual assault or domestic violence, or a loved one’s military deployment. Workers on leave would receive a minimum of two-thirds of their normal pay. Today, millions of these workers are satisfied with their compensation packages. But they will find that they’re worse off, perhaps even with inferior paid leave benefits, if the American Families Plan becomes law.

Biden Tuition Plan Boosts Colleges, Not Students

President Joe Biden’s new higher education plan relies on the same dubious principles that have guided U.S. higher education policy for the better part of a century. It would boost federal subsidies intended to lower the cost of higher education for people who can’t afford it—but which have turned out to let colleges spend more money (rarely on teaching), raise tuition prices, and make higher education harder for ordinary Americans to afford.

Jenner’s Candidacy Reveals the Truly Tolerant Political Party Isn’t Democrats

Caitlyn Jenner, the former Olympian and reality-TV star, has made a splash with an announced entry into politics.
