Friend --
Let's get straight to the point: Donald Trump lost in 2020, but he isn't going anywhere. Just ask Ted Cruz.
Cruz is only the latest in a string of high-profile Republicans to make the trip to Mar-A-Lago to kiss Trump's ring. Trump is raising millions for the GOP and continues to call the shots for his loyal allies in Congress.
The most telling sign of his influence is that Trump's seal of approval continues to make seemingly any other transgression acceptable to the GOP. As we all remember, Cruz ran off to Cancun this winter while Texas was battered by an historic snow storm that killed over a hundred of his constituents. Mere months later, he's back in the good graces with the party because of his relationship with Trump.
Trump and Trumpism aren't going anywhere. The racism, conspiracy theories, and grievance politics that animated the Trump presidency have solidified as the core of the modern Republican Party. Republicans still think that's a winning combination. Democrats must hold the line and prove it's not.
