John: Today, I’m proud to endorse four phenomenal women running for Congress through my Off the Sidelines PAC: Rep. Lucy McBath (GA-06) Rep. Marie Newman (IL-03) Rep. Lauren Underwood (IL-14) Melanie Stansbury (NM-01) When I founded Off the Sidelines in 2011, I was worried there weren’t enough women raising their voices and stepping forward to run for office. Today, women like Lucy, Marie, Lauren and Melanie give me tremendous hope. And they’re proof-positive that when more women have a seat at the decision-making table, the outcomes are better for all Americans. Lucy McBath became an activist for common sense gun reform after her son, Jordan, was senselessly shot and killed at a gas station in Florida by a man objecting to the music he was playing in his car. She’s worked in Congress to expand access to affordable health care, to pass landmark voting rights legislation, and deliver desperately needed COVID-19 relief to the American people. A registered nurse and health policy expert, Lauren Underwood quickly earned a reputation as a tireless, effective and bipartisan lawmaker. She’s used her platform to advance voting rights, make health care more affordable, and prioritize Black maternal health. In 2018, Lauren defeated a four-term Republican House member and became the youngest Black woman to serve in Congress. Marie Newman is exactly the kind of tough, relentless leader that gets things done in Washington. After coming within 2,000 votes of a staunchly anti-choice Democrat in her 2018 primary, Marie stepped up to run again in 2020—and won. In the few short months she’s been in Congress, Marie has championed LGBTQ rights, affordable health care for all Americans, and small businesses impacted by the pandemic. And Melanie Stansbury stepped up to run in the special election for New Mexico’s First Congressional District to replace Secretary Deb Haaland. She’s a STEM professional and member of the New Mexico House of Representatives who has spent her career fighting to protect our environment and support American families. This work means so much to me, and is so important. Thank you for your support. -Kirsten
