Last week, Republican members of the Federal Election Commission killed the case against Donald Trump for hush-money payments to his former mistress just prior to the 2016 election. And under current law, no U.S. court can overturn this decision.

With barely any explanation this move effectively extinguishes the public’s right to an investigation into Trump’s violation of existing campaign finance laws. Without credible FEC oversight these laws are unenforceable — and it’s essentially the Wild West.

For way too long the FEC’s partisan deadlock has hamstrung its ability to do its job and move investigations of potential campaign finance violations forward.

That’s why it’s time to reform the FEC and empower it to oversee our elections consistent with its original mandate. My proposal included in the For the People Act would do just that.

Will you add your name in support of reforming the FEC by passing the For The People Act? Now more than ever we need strong oversight of our elections to keep candidates like Donald Trump from breaking the rules >>

Thank you for standing up for the integrity of our elections.
