Investing in the Future of Europe | Budapest
The European Movement International and the European Investment Bank, in partnership with European Movement Hungary, will hold the last of four scheduled events this year on Tuesday, 8 October 2019, entitled ‘Investing in the Future of Europe’. The event will be held as a panel discussion, bringing together different stakeholders (NGOs, business, trade unions, government etc.) and will be an opportunity for participants from all walks of life to discuss their respective vision on how to best invest in the future of Europe.

Commissioners-Designate Hearings
This week the hearings with the proposed candidates for the next European Commission continue, to assess their European commitment and whether their skills and qualifications match their prospective portfolio. The vote by the European Parliament Plenary on the whole Commission is scheduled in Strasbourg for 23 October.

Votes: Rules for establishments keeping terrestrial animals and hatcheries, and the traceability of certain kept terrestrial animals and hatching eggs, and repealing certain acts on the traceability of kept terrestrial animals.

JHA Council
On Monday, Justice ministers will have a debate on the EU action against corruption. They will discuss whether additional actions should be taken at EU level to fight corruption as well as what role the EU should play in this field at an international level.
On Tuesday, Home affairs ministers will have a debate on right-wing violent extremism and terrorism. They will focus in particular on analysing the nature of the threat and the existing response.
Wednesday 9 October
Eurogroup
The meeting will discuss Banking Union – euro area aspects, growth and jobs – Competitiveness developments in the euro area, exchange rate developments, and more.
Thursday 10 October
Ecofin Council
The Council will discuss the progress achieved in the implementation of the anti-money laundering (AML) action plan adopted in December 2018. It will also consider the future strategic priorities in the area.
Friday 11 October
Coreper I
The Permanent Representatives Committee (COREPER) is responsible for preparing the meetings of the Council in its relevant fields. Member States are represented in the Committee by ambassadors and they are chaired by the Member State holding the 6-month presidency. COREPER I deals with the following policy areas of the Union: employment, social policy, health and consumer affairs competitiveness, transport, telecommunications and energy, and other.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural development Phil Hogan, in cooperation with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is organising the 3rd round table on the proposed new environmental and climate architecture of the common agricultural policy (CAP). The event will discuss how the legal proposals could be implemented and address objectives and concerns.

This meeting will be marked by the continuation of the inter-institutional negotiations on both the EU budget and the cohesion policy package for 2021-2027.

Coal Regions High-Level Conference
This conference will focus on the clean energy transition, including regional exit strategies from coal, focusing on the specific needs at regional level. It will include national Ministers, Members of the European Parliament, the European Commission and high level representatives from regions (Prime ministers or ministers).

This event will provide an opportunity to reflect on the need for digitalisation of criminal justice cooperation in Europe and possible available solutions. It is organised by Eurojust (the European Union’s Judicial Cooperation Unit), together with the Finnish EU Presidency, the General Secretariat of the Council of the EU and the European Commission.
The Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra & Tero Saarinen Company
The orchestra’s concert programme during Finland's Presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2019 will feature Sibelius’s Symphony No. 5, a stirring composition that was inspired by the surrounding nature.

Parliamentary election in Poland
On Sunday, Polish voters will head to the polls to elect their government for the next four years. All 460 members of the Sejm and 100 senators will be elected. Since 2015, the Law and Justice party (PiS) has been the ruling party in the country, after receiving 235 seats during the last elections. The elections will determine which course the country will take next.
