On the Cleveland City Council, in the Ohio State Senate, and as National Co-Chair of Sen. Bernie Sanders' 2020 presidential campaign, Nina has committed her life to advancing progressive change — and I need her fighting alongside me in Congress.

This movement is no stranger to making history, and Nina has made plenty of it. She was the first African-American woman to represent Ward One on Cleveland City Council and the first woman to serve as a state senator in Ohio’s 25th District.

In the state senate, Nina repeatedly defended against attacks on women’s healthcare freedom, partnered with organized labor to protect collective bargaining rights, and led the effort to create Ohio’s first task force on police and community relations to end racial profiling and police brutality.

Nina knows what it’s like for working people in this country, because she grew up the oldest of seven children to working-class parents in Northeast Ohio. We have gone far too long with a system that only delivers for the wealthy and well-connected, and Nina and I will fight relentlessly to build an America committed to racial, social, economic, healthcare and environmental justice.
