Hi Reader,
Our newest Report to Stakeholders is out today, charting ProPublica’s activities for the first four months of 2021. We prepare this report three times a year, offering a look at our recent investigations, publishing partners, honors we’ve received and, most importantly, the impact our journalism has spurred. There’s a lot to be proud of in this edition.
Over the last few months, our reporting has led to:

new federal guidance allowing businesses in bankruptcy to now get much-needed relief through the Paycheck Protection Program,

the passage of sweeping legislation increasing benefits and legal protections for the families of brain-damaged newborns in Florida,

$1.35 million in compensation for a wrongfully convicted man in Nevada,

the guilty fraud plea of a vendor who profiteered off the COVID-19 pandemic by providing N95 masks at inflated prices to Department of Veterans Affairs hospitals,

and an Illinois criminal justice reform law that put an end to the practice of suspending the driver’s licenses of people who failed to pay traffic fines (and restored driving privileges for those who previously faced such harmful suspensions).

I hope you’ll read the entire report to see how ProPublica is shining a light on injustice and inspiring real-life change. Thank you for making this work possible.
Many thanks,
Dick Tofel
President, ProPublica
