Dear Friend,

For more than a decade, MediaJustice has tirelessly worked to fight injustice and win racial, economic, and gender justice. As we mark the first anniversary of the outbreak of the pandemic and of the Black Lives Matter uprisings, Team MediaJustice is preparing to accelerate our campaigns and resource our communities for greater change through:

  • Campaigns: From a lack of Internet access to corporate-police partnerships which criminalize our people, media and technology are steadily being coopted to create discriminatory and unjust systems. MediaJustice took on greater leadership in the movement against rampant disinformation in 2020, and will be ramping up this work and our campaigns on Amazon, Internet affordability, Net Neutrality, and protecting black dissent.
  • Education: MediaJustice creates key resources, trainings, and research to support advocacy, grassroots organizing, and participation in regional and federal efforts. In response to community needs, we plan to expand the resources we create or provide, including more accessibility options like translations.
  • Community: We provide webinars, tools, and resources to ensure MediaJustice Network members can fully engage in campaigns. In 2020, we disbursed more than $100,000 via the MediaJustice Action Fund, providing critical support for pivoting into virtual operations and meet rapid response needs. This year, we plan to launch the MJ Leadership Institute, a media organizing school for movement leaders.
Here's how you can help:

DONATE:
MediaJustice is powered by supporters like you, and we manage to make quite the impact for a small nonprofit. If you choose to give, your gift goes directly towards mobilizing communities nationwide and campaigns which shift the balance of power and create a more just nation.
  • Become a monthly donor: Even $10 a month goes a long way in movement-building work.
  • Share our work with your own networks, invite them to MJ events, or encourage them to sign up for our emails. Greater awareness is a gift, too!
  • If you or your network would like to fundraise for us, we'd love to hear from you!
STAY ENGAGED:
  • A key measure MediaJustice has campaigned for, the Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB), provides a temporary subsidy for Internet access to eligible lower-income households. The program launches on May 12, and we will launch a guidance website to help potential participants understand the program and application process--be sure to check it out and share!
  • Earlier this spring, MediaJustice launched the nation's first ever interactive map tracking electronic monitoring policies by state. You can also watch the launch livestream here
  • Amazon’s temporary freeze in selling facial recognition and surveillance technologies to law enforcement expires on June 10, with no plans for a renewal. MediaJustice is ramping up our Amazon campaign with a week of action June 7-11, demanding that they permanently cut ties with law enforcement. • Spend your lunch break today with MediaJustice! We're hosting a 101 session discussing the history of criminalizing Black and brown dissent, as well as MJ's campaign strategy to defend our movements. Register here!
