Dear John,

The state of Louisiana is currently considering a proposal to put a massive oil export facility, the Plaquemines Liquids Terminal (PLT), directly adjacent to Louisiana’s cornerstone coastal restoration project, the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion. The diversion project is also the largest single coastal restoration project in U.S. history.

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality announced a hearing on this issue on Thursday, May 13, 2021 in Belle Chasse,  but the state has not yet released information about how the terminal will impact our coast or the health and safety of nearby communities. This is the second time the public has been asked to weigh in on this project when there is still not enough information provided.

Nearby impacted community members and other interested groups simply cannot provide meaningful feedback without necessary information that the state has not provided.

Before this hearing can take place, the public needs answers, and we need YOUR help:

  1. Demand all the information: The state has not released information about how this project will impact coastal restoration and specifically, the state’s cornerstone restoration project, the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion.
  2. Demand accountability: The state and the port have not lived up to promises to provide vital information. In addition to coastal impacts, Plaquemines Liquids Terminal raises serious concerns of pollution and traffic for nearby communities that have not been addressed.

Tell the state: No public meetings and no permits issued until our questions are answered!
