How is it already the middle of May? The time warp of the pandemic continues in my head. If that’s the case for you, too, you’re in luck. We just extended the deadlines for a couple upcoming Poynter programs:

Reporting in the Age of Social Justice ([link removed]) — this online reporting workshop focuses on the evolving ethics and best practices of covering protests, activism and more. Apply by tomorrow, May 12, for the live workshop taking place June 7-10, 2021.

Virtual Teachapalooza ([link removed]) — this is the place for college journalism educators to catch up, power up and reignite their passion for teaching. Apply by Friday, May 21 for the live event taking place June 4-5, 2021.

And, there’s still time to tune into “United Facts of America: A Festival of Fact-Checking ([link removed]) ,” brought to you by Poynter and PolitiFact. The event continues today at 3 p.m. Eastern time with these forward-thinking conversations about facts and the COVID-19 crisis:
* Dr. Daniel Fagbuyi, ER physician, biodefense expert, chief medical officer, war veteran, assistant professor and media expert, discusses his efforts to reach vaccine hesitant people of color through social media.
* PolitiFact senior correspondent Jon Greenberg interviews Shefali Luthra, health and gender reporter at The 19th, Derek Thompson, staff writer for the Atlantic, and Elisabeth Rosenthal, editor-in-chief of Kaiser Health News, about COVID-19 misinformation.
* Katie Sanders, PolitiFact managing editor, interviews Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a leading voice on COVID-19.

Get your ticket here ([link removed]) ! In addition to supporting the nonprofit work of Poynter and PolitiFact, you’ll get access to all conversations and replays.

Summit for Reporters and Editors
Online group seminar, July 1-17

In a 24/7 news cycle, how do you build the skills to report, write and edit stories that connect with your audience? And — facing the challenges of remote work during the pandemic — how can editors and reporters collaborate more effectively?

Throughout six days of training and personalized coaching spread over three weeks, our team of award-winning journalists and educators will show you how digital approaches and narrative writing can transform your work — whether it’s a quick-turn story or a major project. This unique program will boost the skills of both reporters and editors who seek greater impact and relevance in digital newsrooms.

You’ll have time in between training sessions to reflect and practice what you learned back on the job. You’ll have the opportunity to talk one-on-one with a Poynter Summit faculty member about what’s going on in your career after more than a year of living through a pandemic. And you’ll connect with your fellow journalists around the country who will support your personal and professional growth moving forward.

At the end of this high-impact training, you’ll return to work with a personal action plan to put what you’ve learned into practice. You’ll also feel revitalized and prepared to tackle challenges in the newsroom.
Cost: $450. Apply by Tuesday, June 1.

Build a Stronger Team by Being a Better Coach
Online group seminar, June 28-30
Coaching is one of the most crucial skills for successful leaders. But how do you effectively coach people who work remotely? With deadlines looming and shrinking staffs, how do you prioritize these “how can I help” conversations? As the lines among editorial, product and technology blur, how do you negotiate the conflict that emerges from those different roles? How do you ensure that you’re coaching everyone you oversee fairly?
This new, hyper-focused workshop from Poynter will teach leaders at news organizations how to build stronger teams by being better coaches. You will explore the language and art of coaching, how to actively listen and demonstrate empathy to your staff, strategies for handling conflict, what change management looks like in the news environment and more.
Poynter leadership faculty Cheryl Carpenter will help you navigate your specific challenges through hands-on activities, peer coaching sessions and evidence-based presentations. You’ll leave with an action plan to put in place immediately.
Cost: $499. Apply by Monday, May 31.
