** This Thursday May 13 at 2pm (EST), join us on Facebook Live for a conversation with USCRI's Elcy Valdez, Director, Rinconcito Del Sol, and AnnaMarie Bena, Vice President, USCRI, to learn about Unaccompanied Children and the current situation at the border.

About the speakers:

AnnaMarie Bena is responsible for overall management, growth, and quality service delivery of USCRI’s programs for unaccompanied immigrant children, including residential care program, unaccompanied minors post-release and home study services; legal services program; and trafficking survivors support programs. Her portfolio includes USCRI’s policy and advocacy unit. AnnaMarie brings over 20 years of experience working on refugee and immigrant issues. Most recently, she served as the Director of Policy in the Office of Refugee Resettlement. She also has worked for UNHCR, the HHS Office of the General Counsel and CLINIC. AnnaMarie holds a J.D. from the University of Notre Dame and a B.S. in journalism from the University of Maryland. AnnaMarie served for two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Cameroon.

Elcy Valdez is responsible for the oversight of USCRI’s first shelter for unaccompanied migrant children. Before joining USCRI, Elcy worked for seven years in the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) as a Federal Field Specialist. While at ORR, Elcy started up and provided critical oversight for ten new ORR-funded shelters for unaccompanied children in New York and New Jersey. She served as a Victim Advocate for Palm Beach County in Florida, making sure victims of sexual assault and human trafficking were provided the social services they needed to begin new lives. Elcy had a distinguished career working for the United Nations, including the UN Development Programme in Dominican Republic and UNICEF in Spain. Elcy earned a J.D from NOVA Southeastern University and an M.A in International Cooperation from the University of the Basque Country in Spain.

*The "In Search of Safety" Facebook Live Series will be taking place every Thursday starting May 13 through June 10.
