Emgage advocates and community members,
Palestinians need your help.
In just 2 minutes, take action and urge your members of Congress and the Administration to send a clear message to the Israeli Government - stop the illegal evictions of Palestinians. Over the last few days, as Muslims observed the last ten days of Ramadan, the holiest time of the year, the world watched as Israeli forces violated international law by seeking to forcefully change the demographics of occupied East Jerusalem. The Israeli military has attacked Al-Aqsa Mosque and evicted families from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood - many of whom have been made homeless overnight. Not only is this an attack on Palestinian land, but it is also an attack on human rights and religious freedom. The United States cannot be complicit in these actions that are in clear violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention.
We urge advocates like you to call on Congress and the Biden administration to send a clear message to the Israeli Government that they must cease these evictions and all settlement activities in East Jerusalem and elsewhere. We need Congress and the Administration to take appropriate action. These evictions in Sheikh Jarrah are illegal under international law and violate the most basic values of justice and decency. “Given the disturbing scenes in Sheikh Jarrah over the past few days, we wish to emphasize that East Jerusalem remains part of the occupied Palestinian territory, in which International Humanitarian Law applies. The occupying Power must respect and cannot confiscate private property in occupied territory...Forced evictions are a key factor in creating a coercive environment that may lead to forcible transfer, which is prohibited by the Fourth Geneva Convention and is a grave breach of the Convention," said OHCHR spokesperson Rupert Colville.
We urge you to remain politically engaged with your elected officials by taking action now,
