This is a democratic issue.

I have some exciting updates to share -- there have been some big developments in the fight for D.C. statehood:

FIRST: For the second time in U.S. history, I joined my colleagues in the House in passing a bill that would make Washington, D.C. our country’s 51st first state.

THEN: The U.S. Census Bureau released population data for the past decade that shows there are nearly 700,000 Americans living in D.C., nearly tripling its growth rate and making the District bigger in population than Wyoming and Vermont.

NOW: D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser joined the Democratic Governors Association -- the first D.C. representative to ever do so -- because she and the DGA know that Washingtonians deserve a governor with stronger decision-making power over local affairs and laws.

At its core, D.C. statehood is not a political issue. It’s a democratic issue.

The Senate must make it a priority to grant D.C. statehood and give the nearly 700,000 Americans who live there full voting representation. If you agree, sign our petition and show your support for D.C. statehood today.
