John,

Lead. Mercury. Arsenic. Cadmium. All of these toxic metals have been found in baby food!

Earlier this year, a congressional report found that some baby food manufacturers knowingly sold products containing high levels of these toxic metals, which have been linked to cancer and can interfere with developing brains.

This is one of the most disturbing signs yet that the giant industrial agriculture corporations that control our food supply prioritize their own profit, not people's health and safety.

The investigation found baby food with 91 times the amount of arsenic allowed in drinking water, 177 times the amount of lead, 69 times the amount of cadmium, and 5 times the amount of mercury. That is horrifying!

But a new bill introduced in Congress would impose strict rules on baby food manufacturers and require regular testing to verify levels of toxic metals. Tell your members of Congress to support the Baby Food Safety Act of 2021 today.

The Baby Food Safety Act of 2021 would protect infants by ensuring that both government agencies and manufacturers take swift, effective actions to remove heavy metals from baby foods. It would lower the allowable levels of arsenic, mercury, lead, and cadmium; increase monitoring and enforcement of those levels; and allocate $50 million to research how to reduce toxic metals in soil.

Because the USDA and the FDA have failed to regulate heavy metals in baby food, every day babies are exposed to toxic heavy metals that can lead to permanent cognitive, behavioral and learning problems.

Food & Water Action and supporters like you have been fighting every day to ensure we all have access to safe food. We have always stood against those who would harm our communities and planet. It’s time for Congress to take this important step to make sure our children are better protected.

Tell your members of Congress to protect infants’ development and ensure they have safe food by supporting the Baby Food Safety Act of 2021.
