Fellow Colorado Republicans-

First -- to all the moms and grandmas out there, I hope you had a Happy Mother's Day! You can meet my amazing mom in my weekly update video below.

As the legislative session in Colorado continues, the liberal Democrats continue to throw a host of damaging bills at Coloradans who have struggled through an unpredictable year. There's two in particular you need to keep your eyes on: SB 260 (the transportation tax bill) and HB 1295 (the anti-charter school bill).

At the Colorado Republican Party, we understand something the Democrats don't: Colorado voters want better roads, but they expect Jared Polis and his buddies to stop disguising more taxes as "fees." In 2020, the voters passed Prop 117 and said that we have the right to vote on any fee that exceeds $100 million. The transportation tax bill -- which includes a much-hated gas tax -- would raise "fees" by $3.8 BILLION -- all without the voters' say. As Republicans, we also believe in more and better options for education. No child should be stuck in an underperforming school. Yet that's exactly what the Democrats are trying to do with HB 1295. You can read more here ([link removed])

** GOP Rep. Ken Buck says Facebook 'stifling' competition in letter to FTC

Fox Business ([link removed]) : EXCLUSIVE: Rep. Ken Buck, R-Colo ([link removed]) ., sent a letter to the acting Federal Trade Commission (FTC) chair highlighting that Facebook ([link removed]) may be using its 2019 settlement with the agency to stifle competition.

Buck -- the ranking member of the antitrust subcommittee in the House -- sent a letter exclusively obtained by Fox News to FTC acting chair Rebecca Slaughter on Friday raising concerns that the social media giant is using its 2019
settlement ([link removed]) to "stifle" advertising analytics competitors.

** Rep. Doug Lamborn provides update on U.S. Space Command investigation

KOAA: ([link removed]) Congressman Lamborn sits on the House Armed Services Committee, which held hearings just last week with General James Dickinson, the head of U.S. Space Command, who emphasized some of the issues related to the move, most notably some of the upgrades that would be required, including an expensive secure communications network to connect headquarters to the Pentagon and other installations. At the end of the day, General Dickinson can make recommendations about the pluses and minuses of the move, but it is up to the President and the Secretary of Defense to sign off on where it is located.

For now, Space Command will remain in Colorado Springs for at least the next four years. Congressman Lamborn is hopeful that the decision will be reversed, but there are no guarantees in this high-stakes game of national security and politics.

** Pueblo County GOP appeal to traditional base, make case for new voters at annual fundraiser

Pueblo Chieftain ([link removed]) : “We have a tent where our people sit at, and there are only so many tables [right now]. I want to have a bigger tent,” said party chairman Todd Rogers.

He said he envisions a county party that has space for groups on both ends of the conservative spectrum.

“I’m letting everyone know they are welcome,” he said.

Representatives from the Colorado Hispanic Republicans and the Log Cabin Republicans of Colorado, a group for LGBTQ conservatives, spoke at the dinner.

The county party has plans to establish a committee for Latino outreach, mirroring a party strategy at the national level to capture America’s fastest growing minority population on the basis of cultural similarities.

“If you talk to these people ... their worldview is exactly the same as ours. They should be voting Republican,” Rogers said. “But they don’t. So what we need to do is get them to understand, and the only way to do that is to engage them at the personal level.”

** Boebert blasts Facebook over continued Trump suspension, calls for antitrust action

Lauren Boebert ([link removed]) , R-Colo., called Wednesday for Facebook to be broken up after the social media giant’s oversight committee affirmed a decision to suspend former President Donald Trump’s account ([link removed]) following the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol.

"It blows my mind when Facebook tries to act as the judge, jury and executioner when it comes to regulating our free speech," Boebert said in a statement. "Congress has given major corporations like the MLB and Facebook privileged exemptions from antitrust laws for years, allowing them to have an unfair advantage.
