** Understanding your Community's Civic Health and What to Do About It
May 13, 2021 from 7:00-8:00pm EDT/6:00-7:00pm CDT
------------------------------------------------------------

As communities around the nation search for ways to make our democracy more resilient, Little Rock will serve as the nation's first champion city to advance the report's recommendations. The CALS four-part series marks the start of Little Rock's Our Common Purpose programming and the beginning of the city’s commitment to serving as a model for the nation in building a better political future.

The second event in the series focuses on understanding a community’s civic health and the elements that contribute to a strong civic culture. What does the term “civic health” mean? What role can civic infrastructure play in bridging community divides and fostering engagement? What does civic engagement have to do with American democracy? How can Little Rock residents understand the civic health of their own community and what can they do to make it stronger? Commission member Sterling Speirn will lead a conversation with Kristi Tate (Center for the Future of Arizona), Rev. Dr. F. Willis Johnson, Jr. (Bridge Alliance), and Dawn Schluckebier (Think TN).

** Reminder: Inaugural Civic Season
June 16-July 4
------------------------------------------------------------
The 4th of July commemorates the moment when a new generation boldly articulated the values of a new nation: freedom, equality, justice, rights and opportunity. Juneteenth, celebrated just a few weeks earlier, reminds us that people in the United States have fought to make those values a reality over hundreds of years, and we still have work to do. This tension between our nation’s promises and practices calls us all to dig deeper into our traditions, our history, and our role in forming “a more perfect union” going forward.

Today, amid a groundswell of interest about America’s future, how might we imagine a new kind of tradition that goes beyond hot dogs and fireworks?

An annual Civic Season, held between Juneteenth and the Fourth of July, mobilizes us all to connect with our past, take action in the present, and shape the future, through activations in our neighborhoods, cities, towns and social spaces.

How to Get Involved in the 2021 Civic Season, organized by OCP Champion Made by US:
* Submit your relevant events, programs, and resources to be considered for inclusion ([link removed]) by May 15 - the earlier the better!
* Sign up to receive the promotional toolkit ([link removed]) , so you can share the Season on your social media channels, newsletters, and websites
------------------------------------------------------------

Are you holding an event between June 16 and July 4?
