This is a huge step forward, but now we need your help to pass the companion Puppy Mill Bill A.4283 in the Assembly. LCA is encouraging New York State residents to contact their Assemblymember and urge their support. See below for detailed instructions on how you can help!
This historic legislation would impose a retail ban on the sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits and authorize space for rescue groups to showcase animals. Click here ([link removed]) to learn more. ([link removed])
"With so many good animals in need of rescue, there is no need for puppy mills that abuse animals to supply pet stores. Our four-legged companions should be treated with respect, not like commodities," said Senator Michael Gianaris, who tabled the legislation along with Assemblymember Linda B. Rosenthal.

Dear Assemblymember,
I am contacting you are your Constituent to voice my support for Puppy Mill Bill A.4283. This Bill would ban the sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits in pet stores and authorize spaces for rescue groups to adopt rescued animals. If enacted, this legislation would save the lives of countless animals who are euthanized in shelters each year.
The majority of dogs sold in New York State pet sores are sourced from out of state puppy mills. The states of Missouri and Iowa are the leading suppliers of dogs to NY State pet stores. Investigations into puppy mills have shown breeding dogs in cramped, filthy cages.
I ask you to do the right thing and support Puppy Mill Bill A.4283. Thank you.
Sincerely,
